Sri Lanka plays host to a sizeable population of elephants and the Sri Lankan authorities, recognising the cultural and natural significance of these gentle giants, are working hard to ensure the survival and health of both wild and domesticated elephants on the island.
At this amazing elephant camp in the jungle of Sri Lanka, you will provide hands on assistance to the professional elephant keepers (the mahouts) to ensure these beautiful animals are well cared for. You will walk the elephants through the forest to forage each day, bathe and wash them, clean their enclosures and learn all about these magnificent animals.
The Elephant Adventure allows you to spend time working with the elephants, helping the mahouts with their daily routines. The mahouts are a fun-loving lot, and they’ll see to it that you have as much fun as the elephants do. Your duties will vary, but elephants have a huge appetite so expect a lot of your time to be devoted to feeding them (and then cleaning up after!). As part of the village community, there may also be chance to help local children with their studies.
Our program begins in Kandy, with an exciting week of fun and activities in the cultural capital of Sri Lanka – the blend of culture and tradition complements perfectly with your time at the elephant village.
