HELPING KIDS IN fiji

Itinerary

Children and schools Fiji
Day 1 (Sunday)
Arrive to Nadi between 6am and 6pm and after clearing customs and immigration you’ll be met by our local team for the transfer to Sigatoka.  If you are unable to arrive during the pickup window, then you should fly in on the Saturday and stay overnight (we will be happy to arrange your accommodation).

Day 2-6 Intro Week (Monday-Friday)  Intro week is packed full of exciting adventures and cultural excursions where we explore Sigatoka and its beautiful surrounding areas and get acquainted with Fijian culture.  Various crafts give Fiji a unique identity that along with traditional etiquette and local architecture tells a story of a deep island culture.

During the week you’ll challenge your artistic and creative side through weaving and Fijian cooking classes and we experience the traditional Fijian welcome called “Kava Ceremony”. You’ll also take a Fijian language lesson.

Days 7 and 8 (Saturday to Sunday) Spend your free time as you please, your weekends are yours to enjoy and explore and you'll love being here in Sigatoka, at the heart of Fiji's Coral Coast.

Day 9-13 (Monday-Friday)  Time to get to class !! Your teaching schedule will vary, but generally you should expect around 3 hours of classroom time each morning Monday to Friday.  There is also the option to spend the afternoon session in school, and this is also available to those doing the kinder program.  Alternatively, spend a couple of hours in the afternoon lesson planning as a group.
In kinder you’ll be getting creative with arts, crafts and songs.  In school, you’ll assist the teacher with maths, computers or English teaching or you may choose to focus on Physical Education, music, arts and crafts or any other area of expertise you may have.

In school there is a dress code to follow, as per Fijian Ministry of Education's guidelines.

Your last day (Saturday)  Oh no …… no matter how long you’re here for, one of these days it will be time to say goodbye to your newfound friends.  The return airport transfer is not included, but is straightforward to arrange, and our team will be glad to assist.

Project resources and advice
Many volunteers like to bring small gifts for the projects – if you would like to do so (and please don’t feel obliged), then books, stationery, games, instruments and balloons are always welcomed.

Accommodation
Volunteers share a bunk-style room with three to five others, and the shared bathroom has hot water and western-style toilets.  Rooms are fan-cooled and there is wifi available as well as a fridge for your use.  All participants are expected to be environmentally responsible and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity.  ATMs and a supermarket are a short walk away, with the city centre and all its facilities a 20 minute journey. Laundry facilities are available nearby at a small cost.
Meals
We provide for 3 meals during weekdays and 2 meals (B/D) during the weekend. Breakfast is western style and lunch and dinner are typical Fijian style.
