Animal lovers, come and assist at this animal rescue centre in captivating Cape Town. The centre’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs, cats and other domestic animals in need, as well as providing veterinary services to the township communities.
This centre is dedicated to improving the lives of neglected, abused, and abandoned animals and being a volunteer means being the best part of a homeless animal’s day. Following rescue, individuals are rehabilitated using best veterinary and animal behavioural practices to prepare them for adoption into new homes. The centre also carries out veterinary outreach and humane education in low income areas. The clinic staff operate two mobile clinic vans that service the townships, offering primary healthcare for animals in these communities. The clinic has a full-time veterinarian on site and veterinary assistants who focus on the treatment of injured animals and sterilisations (the feral cat project alone sterilises over 300 cats each month). Sterilisation drives, including door-to-door canvassing, have resulted in a significant decrease in unwanted kittens and puppies. This program welcomes those studying towards veterinary, vet nursing or animal sciences qualifications but the only pre-requisite is that you must be an animal lover ! Snapshot
