Itinerary
Arrival day (Sunday) Arrive to Nairobi airport in the morning, the meeting time is 1pm at which time you’ll be met by our local team for the transfer to Nakuru, a journey of around 3 hours. Mondays to Fridays Orientation day is on Monday of your first week, this is designed to help you become acquainted with your surroundings as well as the local culture. Your volunteer program choice then continues from Tuesday onwards. Our co-ordinator will accompany you to your placement location, introducing you to the permanent local staff so you can get involved straight away. Your placement schedule will vary, most projects have a few hours in the morning and a few in the afternoon. Please ask if you’d like to know your expected hours in advance – and if, when you’re there you find you have energy to do more, just speak with the coordinators who will be happy to keep you busy. Weekends Spend your free time as you please, your weekends are yours to enjoy. Your coordinator will be able to help you decide what to do and will advise on the best way to get around. Book a safari, explore your local area or head further afield. Departure day (Saturday) When it’s time to say goodbye, our team will be glad to assist you with arranging a taxi or advice on public transport – expect to pay up to US $80 for a taxi to the airport, less than $10 if you take public transport. Our accommodations include four units, each with three spacious bedrooms sharing with one to four other volunteers. A private room en-suite upgrade is available at $140 per week ($70pp if twin-shared). All participants are expected to be environmentally responsible and to use all resources with restraint, especially water and electricity. Facilities and the area
Kenya enjoys a tropical climate. February and March are the hottest months, followed by the “long rains” season through to June. Another “short rains” wet season is between October and December (at these times expect some rains daily, but plenty of sunshine too!) |
