Are you a zoology or animal science student, Pre-Vet or an animal lover keen for a more in-depth volunteer program? This is a great opportunity for exposure to real world wildlife care.
The Zimbabwe Wildlife Orphanage is a great option for real-world veterinary exposure. As a genuine orphanage & rescue and rehab centre, here’s your chance to shadow and assist with day-to-day experiences at the orphanage, such as wildlife rescues and captures, immobilisations, translocations, de-worming and vaccinations, spay and neuter, microchipping and other veterinary procedures.
One of Africa’s oldest and most successful wildlife orphanages, this animal sanctuary is a haven for creatures which have little hope for survival in the wild. The orphanage is often the last refuge for those animals or birds brought in orphaned, sick or injured, perhaps in danger due to human/wildlife conflict and in some cases born in captivity or kept as “pets”. All the animals here have their own story as to how they ended up here. Wherever possible, rescued animals and birds are rehabilitated and returned to the wild, but where release into their natural habitat is not possible they are provided with care and a home-for-life for in the orphanage.
This program is well suited to pre-vet or to students of veterinary science, vet nursing or animal science.
